The Story

A Company with No Traffic but a Huge Vision

Fintech startup, Hourly.io, knew they could change the lives of small business owners across the country—if they could only reach the right people.

As a startup in their seed round, Hourly.io's clients came from word-of-mouth referrals and a lean sales team. To raise their Series A, however, they needed to reach firms across the country. The best way to do that? Google.

The Secret to SEO Success

My strategy entailed finding topics (i.e., keywords) that would quickly shoot Hourly.io to page one on Google. The first step involved analyzing Hourly.io’s competitors' websites to see what keywords they were ranking for on Google.

Then, I went after keywords competitors weren’t paying attention to yet still promised a high volume of traffic. I also ensured these keywords were relevant to the types of customers we wanted.

Next, my team and I wrote articles for those keywords, but made sure they were so good readers never wanted to click on our competitors' pages. They only came to us.

And if we did well on a certain keyword? We wrote articles related to the topic, causing Google to recognize us as the ultimate authority on a subject–and send more traffic our way.

Hourly reached No. 1 on Google for 22,000 keywords.
